The (Bad) Rap on Budgeting
The word “budget” today brings with it mixed feelings. A lot of people hear this word and think, “Oh no. Here we go again. I’m not going to be able to do the things that I want to do if we get on a budget.” Or maybe you’re at work and you have to go to a budget meeting, meaning you’re going to sit in a room and hear about all the things you have to cut back on in order to “make” the “budget.”
But I’m here to flip the script.
A budget ALLOWS you to spend money. A budget looks out for your future, while giving you permission to spend in the present. A budget is your roadmap to being on track financially. When working a budget successfully and having accountability through a spouse or close friend, you can reach goals that seemed too far to imagine. When you have money saved for something fun, your budget gives you permission to spend that money!
Working a budget can be challenging, and I would encourage you to keep up with the process if you are new to budgeting. It takes a few months to get comfortable and also figuring out what numbers should go in which categories. For instance, you would be surprised how much money you spend at the grocery story if you aren’t paying attention. If a budget is brand new to you, check out my previous post about working a zero-based budget, as well as this post about the key to giving yourself a raise!
Is what you’re doing now with your finances working? Why not try something new? Let me help you get on a plan to stretch your money farther than you’ve ever thought possible.
